Technical Features of FormsPro
-
FormsPro operates in a client/server,
Ethernet/TCP/IP environment, using scalable servers for conventional data
(RDBMS), image files (NFS), recognition, and keying terminal control.
-
Kodak, Bell & Howell and a number of other scanners are supported,
with PC's or network terminals used for keying using the Simple Imaging
Extension (SIE.).
-
FormsPro is a robust Object Oriented
data entry application that conforms to the POSIX standard, as well as
a sophisticated OCR/ICR platform. It improves results, often dramatically,
even when OCR/ICR cannot be utilized due the nature of the documents.
-
FormsPro uses workstations and the Microsoft
NT, 9X or UNIX (Sun Solaris 8.0) operating system in a client server architecture for
all desktops consistent with open systems strategies as illustrated below.
This is important to avoiding premature obsolescence because, regardless
of the platform that is used for production, most high performance systems
also use this approach for production hardware. The FormsPro
network protocols, Ethernet and TCP/IP, are consistent with the open
telecommunications standards.
-
The desktop hardware for the system will be supplied as workstations or
PC's or network terminals.
-
All of the applications requiring interfaces for the FormsPro
have been developed using User Interface standards consistent with open
systems practices. This allows PC's or inexpensive workstations to be used
instead of workstations for keying workstations. This reduces the cost
of the current and also of expanding the system in the future.
-
The ergonomics of the keying workstations have been carefully designed
and developed for the FormsPro product.
They allow a keying operator to "key what they see" with minimum physical
strain and maximum productivity and accuracy. In all cases, care has been
taken to ensure that almost all keystrokes contain data rather than cursor
positioning information. Snippet keying also reduces the amount of image
data that must be moved on the LAN for exception processing and increases
system throughput compared to keying all exception from full page images
or referring to the form for exceptions as required by many image based
systems.
-
The architecture of the FormsPro system
creates a structure in which multiple vendors' classifiers can be combined
in a single Recognition Workstation. The application software breaks the
image up routes the different parts of the image to the best classifiers
to process the field or group of fields. This means that as the rapidly
evolving market for image based classifiers changes, clients will be able
to incorporate the improvements into the system. In this way the life of
the system will be extended.
-
It makes use of relational databases (such as Oracle or Informix), for
process control and data storage
